Do you look at other moms who seem to have everything so perfect and under control and wonder how they do it? How can they keep their house so clean? How do they get their kids to listen? How do they manage to have a social life… and a business?! What?! When and how is it possible to fit that in?!
How do you do it?!
People ask me this question almost on a daily basis. How in the world do you find time for everything?
My Answer: I don’t.
I don’t have enough time for everything. Something always falls through the cracks. Something is always not done yet. Some days, many days, it’s the dishes or the laundry or the data entry…and sometimes I fall into the trap of actually caring. The trap?
Yes. The mindset.
That’s the difference between success and failure.
What do I choose to set my mind on?
When I care so much about my to-do list that I forget about my relationships – that’s when I fail. Don’t get me wrong, I work hard on my to-do list, but harder on my mindset. When I don’t make time to set my mind on God in prayer, my mindset shifts to chores, and I don’t have time for my relationship with anyone else. Then everything falls apart. No wonder people say “happy wife – happy life”. It’s true. Our joy inspires our husbands and motivates our kids.
What many fail to realize, however, is that it’s not my husbands’ job to make me happy. It’s my job to choose joy. Every. Single. Day. When I do so, it will no longer matter if there is peanut butter on the walls or glue all over the new rug. It won’t even matter that you’re sleeping 3-5 hours per night. You still choose to be happy with what you do have. Then people who visit you will still feel cozy in your home even if the dishes aren’t washed or if there are crumbs on the floor.
So how do you balance business and babies?
You choose joy. No matter how busy or frustrated or confused or tired you get – you still choose joy. When your husband gets discouraged – be his sunshine. When your kids are fighting – show them love. When your contractors are working hard – bring them some iced coffee.
